Christmas
Lights
Stony Stratford has a splendid display of lights
during December.
These are turned on during a day of celebration
when the high street is closed to traffic to
make way for stalls and fair rides, entertainers
and musicians, including the Stony Mummers.
As the day draws to a close a procession of
lanterns makes its way down London Road, through
the High Street and into the Market Square where
the ceremony of switching on the Christmas
lights is performed.
The streets throng with happy families out
shopping for seasonal gifts and the pubs and
hotels are crowded as Stony Stratford prepares
for the festive season.
Shops decorate their windows on the theme
designated for that year by Stony Stratford
Business Association.
The lights remain in place throughout the
festival and are finally packed away for the
next year after 12th night.
Christmas Lights Switch On Day is just one of
the many festivals that take place in the town
throughout the year and there is a full calendar
of events in this thriving market town.
