| After
a full English breakfast - or perhaps just coffee
if it was a late night - you are ready to explore
the many and varied shops to be found in Stony
Stratford. Some of the businesses have been in
existence for hundreds of years and you can still
see the original shop fittings. Don't forget to
look above the shop fronts to appreciate the rich
architectural history of the town. |

Take
a stroll down the High Street where you'll find
the butcher, the baker and (though they're not
manufactured in the town), a gift shop with a
wide range of candlesticks. Pet food, carpets, oriental gifts - Stony Stratford can
supply them all. There are ladies' wear shops, a
gentlemen's outfitters, and a lighting specialist with practically every sort
of lamp you can imagine. |

|
| The
town has chemists, photographers, a shoe shop,
numerous hairdressers, an outdoor equipment
retailer, army surplus store and bicycle
emporium. You can hire the latest video,
buy a case of wine, place a bet - all within a
few shorts steps. |

The
shops extend along Wolverton Road and into the
Market Square and remember to visit the town's
three small arcades: Swinfen's Yard,
Stratford Arcade and Timor Court. Here
you'll find bridal and dance wear, some very interesting gifts
or specialist books.
You'll be spoilt for choice when you come to
order morning coffee or pick up a lunchtime
sandwich from one of the many teashops and snack
bars. |
