| Church, chapel? - Stony Stratford, where
John Wesley would preach early Methodism in the
Market Square, has places for worship for several
denominations and is quite ecumenical. Within a mile of central
Stony ...often less... there is open countryside
in several directions, grazed by people-friendly
cattle and sheep. A walk on the wildlife side, by
meadow fringed river which winds lazily through
the 'Wind in the Willows' scene of the Ouse Valley
Country Park, can be very diverting and
therapeutic.

Swan-graced,
geese-gaggled and heron-haunted, the river in
summer is alive with large dragonflies, or
iridescent small electric blue ones, and the
occasional blue flash of a kingfisher. And in the
Bbont (Bucks, Beds and Oxon Naturalists' Trust)
members' special nature reserves, one might see
the intricate mating dance of great-crested
grebes. |

| Local pubs offer good value Sunday
lunch roasts and bar snacks. There's a folk music
session in the Bull's Vaults bar, with
enthusiasts from a wide area joining in the
choruses. For
the evening meal, there's again an impressive
choice of restaurants featuring a cosmopolitan
range of cuisine.

If
your experience of Stony Stratford makes you feel
like moving here, the presence of seven estate
agents in such a small town must be an indication
of how many people from elsewhere want to do just
that!...and they're open on Sundays. |
